We believe baptism is a Covenant between each person and God. Through baptism we are joined with the church and with Christians everywhere. Baptism is a symbol of new life and a sign of God’s love and forgiveness of our sins. We baptize by sprinkling and receive the Sacrament of Baptism only once in our lifetime. The Sacrament of Baptism also includes promises for the church and individual or family to be bonded together. Persons of all ages can be baptized at Perrysburg First UMC. Call the church at 419-874-1911 to speak with the pastor about receiving the Sacrament of Baptism.
Confirmation is a very important step in each teenager’s walk in faith. It’s a time when students (7th-12th grade) make a personal decision to devote their life to God. Any student wishing to be Confirmed should talk to the Pastor or our Youth Director about attending our Confirmation Class.
Persons of all faith backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to become a part of our church family. The following designations are offered:
*Profession of Faith – This designation is for those persons who have never joined a church before and is your first public declaration of faith in God. You will be asked to come forward during one of our three services to take membership vows and receive a special blessing from our pastor.
*Transfer – For those who have been an active member of any other Protestant church. We will send a letter of transfer to the church you are coming from.
*Reaffirmation of Faith – For those persons who are coming from other Protestant denominations but have no active church connection.
There are four questions asked during the membership vows ceremony
1. Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord and pledge your allegiance to His kingdom?
2. Do you receive and profess the Christian faith as contained in the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments?
3. Do you promise, according to the grace given you, to lead a Christian life and remain a faithful member of Christ’s holy church?
4. Will you participate in the ministry of Perrysburg First United Methodist Church and uphold it with your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness?
